What is the lowest down payment to buy a house in Houston?

Written by the Warens Financial Group education team · Reviewed by Franklin Warens, Mortgage Broker, NMLS #1249423

The short answer

VA and USDA loans can allow 0% down for eligible buyers. Among loans generally available to any qualified Houston buyer, FHA allows 3.5% down with a credit score of 580 or higher, and some conventional programs allow as little as 3%.

VA eligibility depends on qualifying military service, and USDA depends on the property's location and household income, so neither fits every buyer. Warens Financial Group does not currently offer USDA loans; ask a licensed loan officer which 0%-down or low-down-payment program actually fits your file.
