Will a higher credit score get me a better mortgage?

The short answer

Generally, a higher score gives you access to more loan programs and better pricing tiers. Rates change daily and depend on many factors, so a licensed lender can explain how your score affects your specific options.

Conventional pricing generally improves as your score rises through tiers around 680 and 740, and a stronger score can also reduce mortgage-insurance costs. If you are a few points below a tier, a few months of on-time payments and lower card balances can sometimes move you across it before you apply.
